I am based in Torquay, Australia, and I photograph families along the Surf Coast, Great Ocean Road, Bellarine Peninsula, Geelong and Melbourne. Locations 45 minutes or more from Torquay incur a small travel fee – but you can bet your whiskers I’ll come your way!

In home sessions are perfect for newborns, older babies, more of a lifestyle aesthetic or a documentary ‘day in the life’ session, especially if you want cozy snuggling shots or photos of you nursing or changing your baby.

Outdoor sessions (beach or forest) are lovely for slightly older, adventurous families and are scheduled for early morning or late afternoon. You will still get lots of cuddle shots, and they will be mixed in with lots of running free and playing photos.

I sure do. Also, this will make you win Best Gift Giverer in the eyes of the recipient, because deep down every mum wants a photo session with her partner and kids, but often needs encouragement to book it. So, if your daughter or son recently became parents, consider gifting them a photo session, and I promise I’ll throw in some extra prints for you of your grand babies!

Indoor sessions can be done year-round, at a time that works with naps (your kids’, or yours. I’m not here to judge).

For outdoor sessions, ideally we plan for sunset in summertime so that we can catch the lovely golden hour light.

Fall here on Vancouver Island is particularly beautiful, and sunset is earlier in the day, so if a summer sunset is a no-go for your kids’ bedtimes, then this could be your season. The colours are magical.

Anything neutral toned (oat, grey, browns), soft pastels, more autumnal colours (olive, burgundy), delicate patterns, variety of texture (such as chunky knits, linens), and simple everyday clothes like jeans. Either aim for all neutrals, or just one key colour coming through for your whole family. This means you won’t look matchy-matchy but it will all tie together well. Aim for less is more on the jewellery, make-up and hair situation – keep it casual and natural. For babies, a simple white/neutral onesie shows off rolls very nicely. Avoid bright pink or purple, bold patterns (including thin stripes), black fabric, visible logos, bold watches and multicoloured sneakers.
