Who said maternity sessions had to be lame, posed, in a field with a foofy dress and making heart-shape hands over a bump?

I wanted this session to feel more like a documentary family session where mum happens to be pregnant - kind of like a snapshot of their lives right now, rather than having the emphasis being just on growing baby bump. I think a lot of people (including myself, TBH) find the posed kind of maternity photography a bit weird and forced, so it was nice to find another way to capture this exciting time that felt more authentic and honest for how this family lives life.

This family was in the final weeks waiting for their third baby girl. We jumped on the trampoline, played with their dogs in the backyard, built towers with coloured tiles, had an afternoon snack, Dad painted the girls' nails and then we went for a sunset play on the beach. This whole session was under two hours, and not too late in the day. Both parents commented how easy and relaxed it felt, which is exactly what I'm going for!
